Where economists disagree
Being honest about the limits.
Broad agreement
Most economists agree on rent control's long-run effects, the gains from trade, carbon pricing and the reality of opportunity cost. Those are near consensus.
- Disagreement is sharper on stimulus, minimum wage effects and inequality remedies.
- Values are often doing more work in the argument than economics is.
Reading claims
Ask whether a claim is positive, describing what happens, or normative, describing what should. The second requires values that no dataset supplies.
