Transformations
Moving shapes about.
The four
Translation slides, rotation turns about a point, reflection flips across a line, and enlargement scales from a centre. The first three preserve size and shape.
- Describing one fully means giving the direction, the centre or the line, and the amount.
- Combining transformations is what animation and robotics do constantly.
Symmetry
A shape has line symmetry if a reflection leaves it unchanged and rotational symmetry if a turn does. Symmetry is often the shortcut that avoids calculation entirely.
