Networks, not boxes.
Not modules
Most abilities involve networks spanning several regions. Phrenology-style maps assigning one trait to one lump were wrong, and simplified diagrams still encourage that reading.
- Language is unusually localised, mostly in the left hemisphere.
- Damage studies show which regions are necessary, not what they do alone.
Lateralisation
The hemispheres differ, and both work on nearly every task. The idea of creative right-brained and logical left-brained people has no support.
