The surprises

Compute is predictable. Data transfer out, per-request charges, idle resources nobody deleted and logging volume are what make a bill jump.

  • Set a budget alert on day one, before anything is running.
  • Tag resources by project so the bill can be read at all.

Paying less

Commit to steady usage for a discount, use spot capacity for interruptible work, and turn off non-production environments overnight. The last one is free money.
