Reading a reference
Give eastings before northings. Four figures name a square, six figures a hundred metre point, eight figures ten metres.
- Along the corridor, then up the stairs.
- National grids and UTM use metres; latitude and longitude use degrees.
Latitude and longitude
Latitude runs north and south of the equator, longitude east and west of Greenwich. A minute of latitude is one nautical mile, which is where that unit comes from.
