Keeping it

From recognition to use.

Spaced repetition

Reviewing a word at increasing intervals is the best supported method for retention. A handful of cards a day beats an hour once a month.

  • Store the word in a sentence, not alone; context is what makes it usable.
  • Ten words learned properly beat a hundred half-remembered.

Use precisely

A word used slightly wrongly is more noticeable than a plain word used well. Precision, not decoration, is what a larger vocabulary is for.
