Chapter 10 of 10
Working responsibly
What an individual can do.
Before deploying
Ask who could be harmed, how errors would be noticed, what recourse an affected person has, and whether performance was measured separately across groups.
- Test on data resembling real use, not curated samples.
- Plan the failure path before the launch, not after the first complaint.
Speaking up
Most documented failures were foreseen by someone inside who was overruled or unheard. Raising a concern early is cheap; raising it after deployment rarely is.
