A reading routine

Ten minutes with any dataset.

The order

What is one row? What period and filters? How many records? What does the distribution look like? Compared with what? What is missing? What would change my conclusion?

Write the answer you expect before looking; it exposes your assumptions.
State explicitly what the data cannot tell you.

Communicating

Give the finding, the comparison, the uncertainty and the limitation. An analyst who names the weaknesses first is the one whose numbers get trusted.
