Chapter 8 of 10
Function and use
Tools, workers and products.
Patterns
Tool to task: hammer and nail. Worker to product: baker and bread. Instrument to measurement: thermometer and temperature. Material to object: wool and sweater.
- Distinguish who uses it from what it produces.
- Direction is easy to get wrong here, so state it explicitly.
Two-step relations
Some pairs need a longer bridge: a scalpel is used by a surgeon to cut. Longer bridges are fine as long as they are specific.
