Protecting accounts

Email first.

Priorities

Your email account resets every other password, so protect it hardest: a unique long password and two factor authentication. Then banking, then anything holding payment details.

  • A password manager makes uniqueness practical.
  • Store recovery codes offline before you need them.

After a breach

Check whether your address appears in known breaches, change reused passwords, and look for recovery methods you did not add. That last step is the one people miss.
