Devices and networks

Keeping the basics current.

Updates and locks

Automatic updates, a screen lock, and encryption enabled by default cover most device risk. A lost unlocked phone is a bigger threat than most online attacks.

  • Enable remote wipe and find-my-device before you need it.
  • Old devices past end of support stop receiving security fixes.

Public wifi

Almost all traffic is encrypted now, so the old warnings are largely outdated. The real risks are fake networks with lookalike names and devices missing updates.
