What works

Age-appropriate settings, devices in shared spaces for younger children, and being the adult they can tell without fear of losing the device.

  • Children who fear punishment hide problems until they are worse.
  • Talk about what to do if something upsetting appears, before it does.

Specific risks

Contact from strangers, pressure to share images, in-game spending, and exposure to distressing content. Each has a practical response, and none is solved by a filter alone.
