Chapter 5 of 10

Employment

Status determines rights.

Status

Employee, worker and self-employed contractor carry very different protections. Status follows the reality of the relationship, not the label in the contract.

  • Written particulars of the terms are usually required.
  • Minimum wage, working time and holiday rules generally cannot be waived.

Dismissal

Most systems require a fair reason and a fair process, with notice. Discrimination on protected characteristics is unlawful regardless of process.
