Learning styles

The idea that people learn better when taught in their preferred style has been tested repeatedly and not supported. Preferences exist; matching instruction to them does not improve outcomes.

  • Material has its own best format: maps are visual, arguments are verbal.
  • Right-brained and left-brained is not a real distinction either.

Others to drop

We use ten percent of our brains is false. Multitasking degrades performance rather than saving time. Highlighting produces almost no benefit on its own.
