Chapter 1 of 10

One message

Decide it before anything else.

The single sentence

Write what you want the audience to think, feel or do afterwards, in one sentence. Everything in the talk either supports it or comes out.

  • If you cannot state it, the talk is not ready to build.
  • Three supporting points is plenty; five is too many to recall.

Audience first

What do they know, what do they care about, and what will they do with this? A talk that ignores those is a document read aloud.
