What works

One idea per slide, large text, an image or a chart that carries the point. If a slide can be read alone, it is a document rather than a visual aid.

  • Reading slides aloud competes with the audience reading them.
  • Charts need one visible message and axis labels that survive projection.

Not always needed

Many talks are better without slides. Ask what the visual adds beyond making the speaker feel supported.
