Chapter 9 of 10

Advertising and pricing

Misleading is unlawful.

Unfair practices

Misleading claims, fake scarcity, hidden fees at checkout and invented reference prices are prohibited in most consumer regimes.

  • Fake or incentivised reviews are increasingly illegal.
  • Advertised prices should include unavoidable charges.

Pricing errors

A displayed price is normally an invitation to treat, not a binding offer, so a shop can usually refuse an obvious mistake before accepting your order.
