Chapter 7 of 10

At work

Where it earns its keep.

Practical situations

Giving difficult feedback, receiving criticism, disagreeing without damage, handling a frustrated customer, and noticing when a colleague is struggling.

  • Most workplace conflict is misread intent rather than genuine opposition.
  • Naming the tension in a room defuses it more often than ignoring it.

Boundaries

Emotional labour is real work and is unevenly distributed. Skill at handling other people's feelings should not become an unpaid permanent role.
